I do the same thing at bookstores--that is straighten the shelves. Though I've gone as far as re-organizing the entire sections, especially children sections, when I see them horribly messed up.

Its something of a joke at the local Goodwill and Red, White & Blue because whenever the clerks see me coming in they know the shelves of books that are haphazardly arranged will look marvelous once I'm through.

As a child though I was prone to being....shall we say chaotic? I preferred things to be piled around me or in hazardous heaps. nothing was ever on the shelves I had nor in the drawers. ::Shrugs::

Well of course the children's section is going to be messed up—kids these days probably can't even read. So tragic.

well by children's I include YA/Teen/Middle Grade--but yes. Its unbelievable what they give as 'summer reading' now.

"Read this short narrative and answer these two questions" is 'college prep' level.

"Read this short story collection and write an essay discussing so-and-so's reaction to such-event" is the 'Honors' level!

I had to read 3 books at College Prep level, write 3 separate essays, be ready for a week of tests soon as English began and answer reading packets! ::flails::
