Maybe it's just the delirium I've been suffering lately (due to a combo of cold and some wicked flu strain) but I've been thinking about the music industry's attacks on piracy. I think they could eliminate a lot of their paranoia and greed by changing their structure slightly ( Read more... )

My dad was reading a book I can't remember anything about, but he told me he was learning about how internet is making fringe culture and media accessible to the masses, allowing people to easily find the actual music that they want to listen to instead of forcing them to listen to the industry shit that's crammed down their throats and labeled "Top 40." Apparently this is allowing a lot of people who were previously fast asleep to perceive the actual relationship between what gets played on the radio and who's making money from it.

Was the book Lessig's "Free Culture"? It's available in pdf with creative commons licensing, if you're interested. If not, you can usually buy it for under $10.
