Okay. Has anyone else noticed that Canadian customer support for companies sucks? I mean, when I was trying to track down Gramma's funeral coverage, I called all sorts of Canadian reps for one company. They wouldn't help. When I called the US branch, they looked up the info and put me through right away ( Read more... )

I spent two hours yesterday calling Dell. I wasn't talking to Dell. I was calling Dell. Every number I had for them got me either to an answering machine or to a line that hanged up on me. Two hours. If I never hear about their damn privacy policy again, I will die a happy man. See, they have this one recording before you get connected to the proper line. You can't skip it in any way and it isn't anything that people shouldn't already know.

So, if you had to call to cancel an order from Dell, you could expect to wait 2-3 hours trying to find someone somewhere who could help you. Dell is set up so that if person1 makes a wrongful purchase in person2's name, it is nigh impossible for person2 to cancel the order. No matter what person2 does, they will never get through the the proper person. Apparently, customer service is who you would have to speak to for that. And, customer service is who I kept trying to contact but could never talk to.

Then there's their tech support. I'm told if you do manage to get through to Dell, they'll put you through the same several hours of diagnostics they put you through last time, even if you know they won't help.

Dell has really bad support from what I hear.

Yet, a lot of people think exactly the opposite. One girl I know bought a Dell simply because their support is "so good". "They will come to your house and fix the computer for you," she said. So, she bought a Dell. It broke in a few months because of viruses/spyware. She called Dell and they told her that they don't have software support for viruses/spyware. She ended up with a paperweight.
