You're not quite at the coast yet.

Have you ever done that? The drive to the Bay Area from Tahoe/Yosemite/just Eastern California in general? (I don't remember if you hit the Bay last time.)

But it's the most beautiful sight I've ever seen, I fucking SWEAR, after driving for miles in the stupid Central Valley and then seeing the Coastal Range in the distance, enveloped with fog.

If you DO do that, go the North Bay route. Take the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge, drive through San Rafael through to Fairfax and get on Sir Francis Drake Boulevard and if you stay on it, you'll run through Central Marin (rolling elephantine hills and sequoia forests) out West as far as you can go before it stops, with twisting roads and sheep and cliffs and bays and esteros and lagoons and the ocean and the craziest lighthouse ever.
