But I'm heavy lifter, Mister Mountain Man

Saw a big sign over somebody's garage on my way home from work yesterday: "Congratulations Jules! The Pride of Squaw Valley". It made my heart, which was already swollen with love for my mountain after a weekend of getting some really sweet powder turns in on the clock, fill to bursting. Skiing is the biggest thing in my world right now ( Read more... )

Watching Olympic torrents weeks after the fact is pretty damn geeky/cute. Hee.

I've been skiing once, in 7th grade. I feel I should remedy this.

Pretty damn geeky/cute, that's me. I love the Olympics! Although the imperialism of it struck me kinda hard this year, displays of extraordinary athleticism are inspiring. Better to see it late than never!

Dude, you should totally remedy that. Strapping wooden sticks to your feet and hurling yourself at high speed down snowy slopes is so much fun! It definitely takes some time to get good at, though. And some willingness to fall, and fall hard, over and over, every time it's time to get better. But falling is a skill too. (I've always been a natural with that one - lifetime of wipeouts that only end in minor injuries. I have constant bruises, but i've never broken a bone.) What a great job i'm doing encouraging you to go skiing! Seriously, though, it is not that easy but it's worth it. It's like sex! It takes some time and experimentation to get it right, but when it's good it is so, so good.

I really enjoyed the Winter Olympics this year oo, and this is probably why: snow and slopes are languages I have learned to read

So much yay skiing! I've never had such a good perspective on and understanding of mountain terrain before. Last year i went hiking around my ski mountain in the summertime once and lost the trail for a while, but i knew exactly where i was by the roll and dip of the land and the shapes of the rock features and the spacing of trees and easily picked up the trail by heading in the direction i knew it must eventually go. So cool!
