RIP Scott Swanson, IMSA c/o 1990

Jan 12, 2010 10:51

Scott Swanson passed away yesterday, from complications of a heart condition he had his whole life. For those who knew him, no further words are needed. ( For those who didn't... )

I didn't know him personally very well, but I've seen the love that the people who knew him had for him, cutting across many social circles. You and all of my friends have been in my thoughts and prayers since I heard the news last night. My condolences.

This really saddens me.

I heard he was hospitalized in Chicago, and I wanted to visit, but nobody seemed to have information about where, and the next thing I hear, he died. I, too, fell out of touch with him, and I'm sorry I'll not have another chance in this lifetime.

At least now Chuck Maddox will have good company.

In 1993 or so a bunch of my fellow 1501C wing friends made up a joking parallel between Star Wars and the CRC. In it, I was Luke Skywalker, Scott was Obi Wan Kenobi, and Chuck Maddox was Yoda.

I hope to see their blue force-presence sitting by the side at my next campfire.

Thinking of Scott, I recall he was in a video of IMSA Diddy-Wah.

Is there any chance anyone has this footage? I didn't see it on YouTube.

Can you see this without a facebook account:

I've asked the guy who posted it to put it onto YouTube for the non-Facebook crowd.

There's been a HUGE gathering of Scott's friends posting memories to his Facebook wall.

There will be a Scott Swanson Memorial Club Pseudo at IMSA on Saturday at 3pm in the Auditorium.

Eva, I don't know if you saw Mike Rudzinkski's memorial. I hadn’t seen Scott in a while --too long. I am sure many of you could say the same. I was convinced that it was something I had done or said to upset him that I had not heard from him in a while. But I can tell you after a weekend of many people saying the same thing (and reading many a Facebook post), I can assure you that a lot of us are living with false guilt. You see, Scott’s health has been declining over the last few years. It may have been hard for us to see it, but Scott knew he was losing the battle with his body. I don’t know if I’ve ever met a person with a stronger spirit, but his body was failing him. The more his health slowed him down and restricted him, the less we all saw of him. But it never was an issue of him loving any of us less.

The photos from his final days in the hospital that are in the "links" section of that memorial site just put me over the edge to crying like a baby. Such an amazing gathering of friends. So sad.
