Timeline: after Continuum
Vala encourages Daniel who is desperately trying to save the world again-one translation at a time.
Daniel was on hour ten furiously translating the Ancient text the team had recovered on a planet that supposedly hid a weapon both the SGC and the Lucian Alliance desperately wanted. He was so engrossed in his task he missed Walter’s “unscheduled off-world activation.” It was only when gentle hands rubbed up and down his back and Vala’s chin rested on his shoulder that he realized the rest of his team had returned.
That scent that was uniquely Vala wrapped around him, and he smiled just before he turned his head to bestow the expected and deserved welcome back kiss she was waiting for. When they broke apart, she tapped Daniel’s knee indicating that he was to push back from his desk, so she could settle in his lap.
“Darling, you have been here since you left us, haven’t you?” She ran one hand around the back of his neck to play with the longish hair that desperately needed a trim in order to save him from looking like the old young Daniel in photos of his early days at the SGC. “Have you eaten anything with your pots of coffee.”
He shrugged pulling her more tightly to him, so she wouldn’t fall. She shifted to wrap her arms around his back offering him physical comfort and encouragement. Each was firmly convinced they anchored the other, when truthful each centered and grounded the other in ways no one ever had.
“Daniel, we will find the answers. We always do. You will translate this text, and Cameron and Sam will lead us to the treasure. Muscles will hold off the enemy, while I cleverly help you liberate said treasure by solving an Ancient riddle. But all this will happen much more quickly after you’ve eaten and had a good night’s sleep with your wife.” She slid from his lap and reached to pull him from his seat.
“If I haven’t told you today, I love you.”
“I count on it, Darling.”
That night, it was her turn to be the anchor.
