it sounds like at least there is forward progress and you don't have to feel trapped in the unending morass of unhappiness anymore. breaking up is always a pain in the ass, but even as you worry about the other person, i am always more concerned with the robbing that you do to yourself by staying in a relationship you know you are unhappy with, robbing you of the person you could potentially be meeting by not being stuck anymore, robbing you of the happiness you could be feeling, etc etc. when i broke up with my ex after 6months of wishywashing around, 4 days later the opportunity came to hook up with my current boyfriend (via a large friendgroup camping trip) which i never would have gone on were i still with my ex (who hated camping & all my friends). i had known my current boyfriend online for a long time, but we had never met irl. the second we met irl it was one of those chemistry, love at first sight things
