1. Is LJ down? downforeveryoneorjustme.com says so, so does lj's status page, but I'm curious if it's affecting everyone or just some clusters (albeit likely big ones) of users.

Not just you. I didn't have any connection now its sporadic, arg!

If you can even see this comment, that icon is perfect for the situation.

Someone else pointed me to downornot, which has a little link under its answer "How do we know?" that tells you which servers it pinged and what their status was.

It'll give you something to do while LJ does whatever it's doing.
