Hey everyone, i'm new here :) and i'm in need of advice! My boyfriend just recently got me a hedgehog and took him home last friday. He's taking care of him at his house for now because I live with my mom and have five cats that love to hunt, so I don't think our little hedgie would fare well at my house. But anyway, our hedgie is about five months ( Read more... )

Firstly, not all hedgehogs can be potty trained. Secondly, I would make sure he has a hedgie hat, or igloo to sleep under. Thirdly, what kind of bedding are you using?

He has been trained and he's used the litter box a few times since we've had him. He does have a little sleeping house and he has a few shirts underneath it to hide and snuggle in. Inside the litter box I've been using just newspaper because it doesn't stick to his quills, but he seems to like playing with it, even though there's turds in his litter box (which I had to put in so that he would be reminded that it's a litter pan.) Thought it would help, but he's just being stubborn.

Ok, well, besides under his hat, and in his litter pan, what are you using in the rest of the habitat?

He's got a few toys and a wheel to run on, but he takes it apart when we put it in the cage so we took it out. The cage is pretty big and has two levels to it so there's a ramp for him to climb up, then there's a few t-shirts on the top and bottom of the cage for him to lay on and his food and water dishes. There's really not much in the cage besides that. Do you think it's too sparse maybe?
