Here's A Drive By Sebastian Post

Jan 29, 2012 22:37

I planned to do this sooner, and when I had more time, but the weekend sort of got away from me so I'm doing it now. This may not be as comprehensive as I wanted it to be, but here it goes anyway.

Let's start at the top. A couple of days ago a scene was leaked from the MJ episode. If you haven't seen it, here it is for you.

A lot of people are jumping down Blaine's throat because of this scene. Mostly, they're wondering why Blaine would possibly consider to have conversations with Sebastian when he knows Kurt is threatened by him. And also they don't know why Blaine would tell Sebastian about their Regionals plans.

Now, I'm not letting Blaine entirely off the hook here. He should be more firm in telling Sebastian no (something I think he'll be doing this episode, but more later). However, I think we need to look at some of what Sebastian said here too as well as some things he's said earlier. Do you guys remember in the Sebastian scene in the sectionals episode when he sees Blaine and says "What's up, Buddy? Haven't seen you online?" On the surface this line could seem like it's nothing. Sebastian wants communication, Blaine isn't responding. But then let's pair this up with something Sebastian said in this scene. When explaining how he came to know about ND's plans for Regionals, he says, "I just called for a tip on how to get red wine out of my blazer piping..." So, Sebastian called Blaine to ask him how to get a red stain out of red fabric. Wow, that's not a transparent excuse. Also, Kurt's exclamation of "Seriously, you're always here." adds to this as well. I know I'm kind of all over the place with these examples, but hear me out. I have a point.

Sebastian has tried to communicate with Blaine online to the point that Blaine felt the need to, presumably, block him (he's a teenage boy, he's not just going to stop going online). He calls Blaine for no reason at random times (why would he need to talk to Blaine first thing in the morning). He's seemingly always at the Lima Bean (which is a place he knows Blaine will be). So...I'm going to take the not so big leap here and say that I think Sebastian is stalking Blaine. At least a little.

This doesn't excuse Blaine continuing to talk to him when he calls, but it does put things into perspective if it is true (keep in mind, this is just speculation). Blaine probably has told him no (he did when Sebastian first hit on him) but he isn't being forceful enough for Sebastian to really get the message. Again, I think he will be in this episode, but before we get there we need to explore another question. Why?

Now, Sebastian has made his attraction to Blaine very clear. He wants in Blaine's pants. But if that was all this was, I have no doubt he would have stopped after awhile. I really think there's something else going on here. Some would argue that Sebastian actually has feelings for Blaine (those some being tumblr Seblaine shippers), but I think it's something else. I think it has to do with power. This brings us to Smooth Criminal.

I'm going to talk about Santana for a second, but I promise this'll all come together in the end. In the first clip, Santana tries to call Sebastian out but he gets the better of her. Here, she's challenged him. She's come onto his turf and told him she wants a duel. So he sends everyone else away and they sing.

Many people have been complaining that there's too much Sebastian in this song but I don't think it could be done any other way. Sebastian is the one singing the verses. As he sings the lines he came into her apartment/left the bloodstains on the carpet he gets completely into her personal space and even touches her in this very creepy way. He prowls around her as she sits and watches him. He's trying to make this her story. She is Annie and he's coming for her.

When they hit the chorus and they trade off Annie, are you okay's, Santana tries to make it even ground. She tries to make him just as scared as he's trying to make her. But in the end, he still dominates the song. He still dominates the story. Finally, when they're standing on opposite ends of the room, Santana cries out I don't know multiple times while Sebastian continues to sing Annie, are you okay behind her. This essentially makes her Annie.

A lot of people have taken to shipping Sebastian and Santana after this scene because they see a bunch of sexual tension between them. I see that, but I don't think it's as much about attraction as it is about power. I see Sebastian trying to gain control. Santana has called him out in front of the group he now runs and because of that he now wants to dominate her. So he prowls around, basically being a creep trying to win this battle.

Now we get to how this connects to Blaine. If Sebastian is stalking Blaine, trying to steal Blaine away, I don't think it's necessarily because he just wants in his pants. No. He's using his sexual energy for power, just like he tried to do with Santana. He wants to dominate Blaine (both sexually and emotionally). Why? He explains back in his first conversation with Blaine.

Sebastian: You're a legend at Dalton. Don't be modest. I was like I don't know who this Blaine guy is but apparently he's sex on a stick and sings like a dream so, sucks that I missed him. Alright. Since I'm working to recreate your meteoric assent I have to ask. Why did you leave Dalton? Were you bored with all the preppies around here or is that you broke too many hearts to stay?

Sebastian wants control over the Warblers. Now, being their captain, you would think he has it now, but I would disagree. Blaine has this affect on the Warblers. They love him a whole lot (especially Thad, the boy is so smitten). That's something Sebastian doesn't have. He has them in the sense that he is leading them, but if Blaine came back, you just know Sebastian's title would be given to him in a heartbeat. Sebastian knows it too. So he needs to have power over Blaine because if he essentially controls the one the Warblers won, he can say he's above them all. To rule the ruler is to rule all the subjects, as it were. So he tries to keep in contact with Blaine. He tries to push away the people who love him by insulting them and making him look like a traitor (I'm willing to bet Blaine only mentioned the whole MJ thing to get Sebastian to hang up, not because he wants to betray his team). He wants Blaine all to himself so he can truly be king of Dalton.

Now, I think Blaine's finally going to tell Sebastian where to get off in this episode (as I've mentioned twice already). Here's why. There have been spoilers that Blaine, not only gets slushied but also gets hurt so badly (by Sebastian) that he has to go to the hospital. This doesn't make any sense considering it'll get him in Blaine's bad books. Even if I'm wrong and Sebastian does just want to sleep with Blaine, these actions would be counter intuitive. However, they wouldn't be if Blaine told Sebastian he would never get what he wants.

If Smooth Criminal taught me anything it would be that Sebastian is a terrible loser. He gets all creepy and threatening when Santana simply calls him out. If Blaine, the thing he's been trying to gain power over for months now suddenly gives him a firm no I have no doubt he's going to flip. I also have no doubt he could get violent. After all, he's not above stalking or creeping on girls, so why would he be above physical altercations?

This would also help solidify him as a bigger villain. No doubt ND and the Warblers will side with Blaine if Sebastian does go crazy. This would probably cause Sebastian to lose his place in the Warblers which could cause him to want to seek revenge against both Blaine and ND (setting up the possibility for him to come back next season if Blaine becomes leader once Finn leaves). All in all, I think it would be a good way of making Sebastian a character outside of that dude everyone hates because he's trying to break up Klaine.

I'd like to finish this off by saying once again that I could be completely wrong about this. This is in no way factual and I could be looking at these scenes far too closely to see them for what they are, so take everything I say with a grain of salt. That being said, I'd like to hear anyone's opinions on the matter and I look forward to seeing how the story plays out on Tuesday! :)
