Actually, datapard is related to the group (specifically Leif Ericsson) that colonized Iceland, as her grandfather's parents came from there, and they did keep track of who was related to who so as not to marry too close. They had fun with the fact that the people at Ellis island didn't understand patronymics very well, which meant his older brothers had different surnames, whereas he was born "in New York Harbor" and was tagged with his father's surname.

Edit: But that and several bucks will get you a latte at Starbucks. Fun story, not much more.

I know that some groups kept good records but these people have never offered any proof. they just pop up at multiple events and say they're related to whoever they're talking to, Robert the Bruce if it's a Clan, someone Irish if it's an Irish group.
