Granted, I do feel kinda guilty for renting instead of buying, thus contributing exactly as much money to the developers as someone who never played the game, or pirated it (i.e.: none.)

That's not exactly true, since your continued rental business promotes the rental store to buy the game, thereby giving money to the developer. So, you're responsible for a fraction of the usual profit proportional to one out of the number of people who have rented that copy. Or something.
