inau-GAG-ration day.

It will be an act of mercy if I somehow make it through today without vomiting about the Inauguration. This has less to do with Mr. Hopenchange himself; he was elected and deserves an Inauguration just like any other President. But rather, the nauseating way it's being covered with no semblance to reality.

"All of America" is not "overjoyed" ( Read more... )

Sounds like someone hasn't had their lobotomy yet.

I'm just waiting for the moment when the libs on MSNBC break down and just come out and say "Truly, he art the son of God".

Is your icon flashing subliminal messages?

I would rather not get into a huge political conversation because i dont know that I am really informed enough.

but isnt it historic at all that he is an african american that was elected?

Yes but that's starting to get on my nerves also; we're constantly told that race shouldn't matter (which I agree with) but then when an african-american wins, it all of a sudden is "historic". It should either matter or not matter; it can't be both depending who comes out on top.

I suppose if McCain had won, it would be ok for the media to make a big deal about the first woman vice-president?

Our first black president is an historic moment. It should take a prime spot in media coverage.

I agree that the coverage is going overboard. I can see showing the inaugration live and perhaps a little of the parade or something, but all day coverage should be left to CNN and the like.

I don't even object to the quantity of coverage; just the over-the-top way it's being presented. CNN said this date was "soaring" and Obama's speech would "virtually be carved into stone someday". Seriously?

I think this is a historic day that we have the first African-American president, but I believe it's an historic day when EVERY new president is inaugurated.

I was covering my school's reaction to watching the inauguration all day, and while I think it's great that people are excited about Obama and that they appreciate the cultural significance of his presidency, I completely agree that a lot of mainstream media hasn't touched on how difficult his presidency is going to be. There are so many problems and such high expectations that it's going to be hard for his administration to meet them.

I think you can appreciate the cultural significance of today without ignoring the reality of the state of our country and what Obama is going to do about it.

When W had his inaugarations (especially his second) almost the entire coverage (the little of it that there was) centered around the anti-war protesters, controversies, etc. The whole thing was presented in a negative light. Now this time around, it's hours upon hours upon days of glowing praise, and Republicans (and the half of America that voted against this guy) are treated as if they don't even exist. I'm sick of hearing that "all of America" is happy today. 46% of us aren't.

In a way I feel a bit sorry for Obama; it's to the point now where the media's absurd gushing is like having a drunk colleague at a party keep yelling "I LUVE THIS GUY AINT HE THE BEST" over and over.
