There was this article on cnn.com today about a grad student somewhere who fixed little red dots to people's bodies and videotaped them walking. Said grad student then analyzed the walks to see if there was any correlation between the persons sexual orientation and the manner in which they walked. Taking a political tangent, the constant effort of liberal-minded scientists to "prove" that gays "can't help it" is almost insultingly misguided. Even if gays are "born that way" and there is nothing one can do to make them straight, the kind of fundamentalists that these scientists are fighting against are not going to be satisfied - gays're just born evil, then, and all the more reason to hate them. And on the other side of the equation, even if it WAS a completely free choice, would it be okay to discriminate against them then? Like it's my completely free choice to be Catholic or Jewish or Muslim; should I be discriminated against merely on the basis of that choice? It's patronizing ( ... )
