I.
The alarm blared, announcing the arrival of morning. Dusty sunlight slatted through the blinds and struck Wilson in the face. Too early, after a sleepless night.
“Fuck this,” he growled. “You go to work, I’m sleeping in.”
“OK,” said James agreeably, rolled over and got up to face the day.
II.
“Wilson, you dog!” House roared gleefully as he knocked open Jimmy’s door with his cane.
Jimmy looked up, bewildered. “What did I do?”
“Not what, who,” House snickered. Jimmy blinked nervously, and House prompted him with, “Ellen. Cafeteria Lady.”
James smiled to himself, and fingered the underwear in his pocket.
III.
“Doctor, don’t get scientific on me. Is it serious?”
Jimmy picked up the file to glance over it again. He knew the contents, but he couldn’t say the words. He wanted to tell the lady she would have children; would live.
James quietly discussed options for pain management. She wept.
