On the new logo of Mechelen (Mechlin)

So my hometown, Mechelen, got a new logo this weekend. This little joke will cost us at least 50 000 EUR, in a time of crisis no less, and the worst part is: it is ridiculously stupid.

It's not even based in Mechelen, but in another town >< Honestly, I odn't get it. I did the experiment, by the way. It took me two minutes to recreate it in Paint. The hardest part was adding the text xD

If you ask me, this mayor of yours (and a good portion of the city-council) deserves to be smacked upside the head. Hard.

Ha! A head with a crown? I immediately assumed it was a reference to Mechelen's past as the city where the king lived...? The colours are also more modern than the old logo (which, in my very limited but honest opinion, does look out of date). However, this looks like the kind of logo that will be out of date again in a couple of years, and if you have to keep coughing up that amount of money...

The moon is not blue! (At least not most of the time xD; )

No seriously, one of my main problems is the money they're putting into it. The other logo is seven years old, they've just painted it on all the buses last year, and now they're gonna change it again? About the colors... Mechelen has always been red-yellow, for over 500 years now. Changing that is, IMO, absolutely out of the question. (It also reeks of politics, since Bartje is part of the VLD)

That new logo is awful. Let's hope the protest against the new one goes well and you guys get something better.
