It's weird how when you lay it out there the age differential is SO MUCH WORSE with Stiles being older. Wow.

I think it's the fanwank element where Stiles seems to be taking care of his dad because of his mother's death that makes him seem more mature than his years, and yes combined with Derek being stunted because of losing his family.

If you needed to create more conflict for yourself to keep it rolling you could have Stiles losing any of his mostly-adult good sense whenever he's around Derek? Stiles becomes a fuckup when around his boy-crush - except for random incidents when he forgets to be a spaz and shoves Derek up against something?

You'd just need to give Derek some agency and you'll be rolling.
