last week was a great break. my drive ended up being ten hours each way, i had car problems and worried that i wouldn't make it at all, i felt old, and i didn't like a lot of the music. but it was still just what i needed

Sounds like fun! I think it's kind of ironic that there were more tattoos and things at a festival like that than at say, a secular festival like Sasquatch. But the music at Sasquatch is much more mellow. ;-)
That's weird that people were protesting it. Like, was there people just marching around carrying picket signs saying "Tattoos are bad! Don't go to Cornerstone!" ?
i only heard about the protesters. i didn't see them. but i guess they were from some really conservative group in wisconsin. they stayed outside the front gate and were only there the first day.
ha:) i can't say i didn't think about those wacky wisconsin synod folks when i heard where they were from. what a funny state wisconsin is. still bitter that the legal drinking age was raised to 21, but with several super conservative religious groups all its own. but maybe those state characteristics (or groups of residents, i guess) always come in pairs...
Gah! If I'd realised you were going to Cornerstone, I'd have told you to not miss Over the Rhine! *points at icon*
I went to Cornerstone Florida in 2004 and was very surprised by the alternative-ness (shh, it's a word!). I was definitely not expecting all the Goth and "tattooed for Jesus" people -- seriously, some guy was wearing a shirt that said that. Most of the bands were really scary with the vocal-cord shredding singing and whatnot.
Er, anyway... sounds like you had a really great time! Yay for deep conversation, lots of stars, and avoidance of sunburn. :D
ha:) i knew it'd heard of over the rhine somewhere before... i want to say they played super late at night and that's why i missed them. but now i'm going to have to look into them and listen to some of their music.
Yeah, I checked the schedule and it looks like they played 12:30-1:30am. Weird. They've got an online radio thing on their website if you want to check out their stuff. (And if you like them, I can send you copies of some of their cds. Shh.)
