I have an OCD thing about having my left and right sides balanced, and one night last year I was at a meeting with a whole lot of people there, and I was joking with my friend (who knew about my OCD) and playing with a blue sharpie, and she wanted the sharpie, and I wouldn't give it to her. So she grabbed it from me, drew a dot on my left hand, and said loudly "And I'm not going to draw on on your right hand! Ha ha!" The other people in the room did NOT know about my OCD, and I started panicking and pleading with her to give me the pen, and she would not give it to me. I definitely did not feel safe. She realized later how totally messed up that was, and apologized profusely, and I forgave her...she and I have a complicated history, but as it turns out, she actually IS that sort of person who does things like that, and not someone I should really have in my life. Which is unfortunate, because she has a lot of really awesome qualities. Such as, all the ones you mentioned about your neighbor ( ... )

Oi. Glad you were able to mend that.

I live with someone who startles easily, and I have to actually announce anytime I am getting ready to touch him unless he is looking directly at me.

I used to jump when people touched me - even if I didn't mind them doing that. Of course that would probably send out all the wrong signals... somewhat inconvenient. Fortunately it isn't so extreme anymore now.
