Question for my more knowlegable friends

Younger son asked me what would win in a fight- a Balrog or Middle Earth dragon. I'm not sure - it sounds fairly evenly matched to me.

Suggestions?

How old is the dragon? I think that would make a difference.

Fingon beat Glaurung when he was young, but Fingon was defeated by Gothmog and friend.

On the other hand, nobody but the Dwarves could stand against Glaurung when he was fully grown, and even then they didn't kill him: he had to be slain by trickery, whereas Elves can definitely kill Balrogs, (Glorfindel).
