Pincushion, Or How Fitz Defected to Pin

It's a sunny day and Fitz is in a good mood. She's sitting in a family restaurant, a large bowl of ramen in front of her. The ramen smells delicious, but is not the reason for her high spirits. Jin had promised to come by later. And where Jin is, Kame couldn't be far either, Fitz thinks happily. She likes Jin and she likes Kame, and most of all she likes Jin and Kame together.
So when Jin finally arrives and has his arm linked with Yamapi and not Kame, Fitz can't help but be tremendously disappointed.
"Oh," she says, and her face falls, "I thought Kame would be here?"
Jin and Yamapi just beam at her, as Jin laces his fingers with Yamapi's. Fitz has a strange feeling in her stomach. She writes it off as disgust, but if she is completely honest with herself, it kind of feels a tiny bit different.
"Fittsu," Yamapi says, his words laced with a strong Japanese accent, “We have Puroposaru."
*
The proposal turns out to be going to Jin's place later and playing Wii. Yamapi keeps shoving Jin, so he ends up winning most games, but Jin complains and pouts and whines and then Yamapi writes “Bakanishi” in the high score list anyway.
“Don’t you hate losing?” Fitz asks Yamapi curiously. She remembers reading about this once.
“I didn’t really lose,” Yamapi says brightly, “Also, if it’s Jin, it’s okay.”
*
Fitz is sitting in her room a day later, staring at her Kame uchiwa sadly. A strange feeling washes over her in a wave of guilty heat, as she realizes looking at it doesn’t make her as happy as it used to. She has basically worshipped this uchiwa ever since she got it, but right now all she can think about is how she wants Yamapi and Jin on it.
Not just one of them, no, the two of them together, smiling, like the always smile at each other. In that adorable, heart-warming way.
In the heat of the moment, Fitz angrily lashes out at the Kame uchiwa, and with a loud snap it breaks in half exactly at the part where Kame’s nose is crooked. Somehow it seems like the Kame uchiwa looks tremendously sad now. She regrets it immediately, but it's too late; Kame is broken and shattered on the floor, just like the shards of her heart.
*
After the disaster with the uchiwa, Fitz had spent half a day trying to make up her mind. On one hand she had thought she’d be loyal to Kame, always. But Yamapi and Jin have ninjaed their way into her heart and she doesn’t have it in her to resist.
She finally asks them to come over one day, and spends the whole morning preparing. On her whiteboard, she removes “Kamenashi Kazuya”, “Kame” and “Turtle Love” with wistful frown, but then she thinks of Yamapi and Jin and her face lights up.
When the two boys finally arrive, they’re flushed and out of breath and the first thing that comes to her mind is how they must have been making out and how utterly adorable it is. She doesn’t even consider that maybe they’d had to walk up four floors, because the elevator hadn’t been working.
*
“Oh my God, look Jin! Look what I found!” Yamapi glees, when he discovers the Pin cookies Fitz had baked and carefully set out on the dining table.
“It’s us!” Jin shrieks.
”It’s us!” Yamapi repeats.
”It’s us!” Jin giggles.
This goes on for approximately five minutes, both Yamapi and Jin shrieking happily about the cookies and jumping up and down like little children on their birthday party, until Yamapi discovers Fitz’s bed and how close to the ground it is.
“It's almost like your futon, Jin!" Yamapi shrieks happily, and flops down.
"Yes, yes!" Jin says and curls up next to Yamapi, "I love it here. Fitz is the best ever!"
Fitz can only look at them, thinking how often they must sleep together (if Yamapi knows Jin's futon so well) and how utterly adorable she finds that.
*
‘Pi + Jin + Love = Fitz,’ Jin writes on the white board.
“Bakanishi!” Yamapi says and kicks Jin in the stomach, “That’s totally wrong!”
‘Pi + Jin + Fitz = LOVE,’ he writes, then looks at it, completely satisfied.
Fitz has tears in her eyes.
*
Then Fitz goes missing, and when Jin and Pi find her she's sitting on the floor of her room, slowly gouging out the eyes of every Kame picture in last month's Potato. "He's watching me," she says when they meet her eyes. "I don't want Kame-chan to see us like this."
*
When Yamapi tackles Jin to the floor and prods at his floppy stomach and runs his hand along has collarbone, Fitz smiles at them fondly. Jin shrieks, horrified, and flails his arms around so frantically that he ends up hitting himself in the face and Yamapi laughs so hard that tears start running down his face.
Fitz wonders how could she ever have doubted they were meant for each other.
*
One night Yamapi and Jin decide to sleep over, but by the time it is 3 am, they are still all awake.
“I can’t sleep!” Yamapi complains, “Jin kicks a lot!”
“Liar!” Jin wails, “I can’t sleep because you just won’t let go of me and I can’t even move and inch.”
They end up sitting out on the balcony together, staring at the night sky. It is a clear night and they can see the stars on the horizon shining brightly. Fitz suggests they find constellations.
“MONKEY HOLDING BANANA,” Jin says and points somewhere. Then he giggles in delight and points at the sky again. “Oh and there! YAMAPI FALLING OVER AND ME LAUGHING.”
Yamapi just cracks up the whole time, pressed up close and warm against Jin's side. Jin pretends to fall asleep in Yamapi's arms, then, and Yamapi drags him inside, complaining the whole time.
"Baka," he mutters when Jin shifts to press a sleepy kiss to Pi's cheek and Fitz feels a sudden flush of intense love for the two boys.
*
"Call me Jessie," Fitz says one day, batting her eyelashes at them shyly.
"JYASSI," Jin says, trying to wrap his tongue around the foreign name.
"JYASSI," Yamapi mimicks and giggles.
Fitz is so happy she could cry.
"Jyassi," Jin says again, wraps an arm arond her waist and presses a soft kiss to her cheek. He breaks away when she flushes, and leaps on top of Yamapi, pinning him to the mattress. "DID YOU HEAR THAT? JYASSI! JYASSI AND JIN. WE BOTH START WITH A J"
"WHAT, HOW IS THAT FAIR? So not fair!" Yamapi shrieks, alarmed. He thinks for a moment. Then his face lights up considerably. "OH! I know, I know! JIN, JYASSI AND ... JAMAPI."
“You’re both so retarded,” Fitz says, but her voice is warm.
*
“Come here, Boob,” Fitz calls out, and a grey cat curls up at her feet.
“You too, Boobs!” she says, then, but her other cat meows and runs away, possible scared of the new name.
Strangely, Fitz doesn’t even feel too bad about renaming her cats.
*
When Yamapi hands her the little pig, Fitz feels a bit guilty. This is like in Nobuta Wo Produce, only without Kame and to Fitz it feels a little bit like she abandoned Kame. But when Yamapi beams at her and grabs her right hand, and Jin takes her left, all doubt is gone and Fitz knows this is exactly where she is supposed to be. Here with Yamapi and Jin.
Akame is the past. Pin is the future.
