Summary: The day has come, it’s Heechul’s turn.
Heechul slot the key to the dorm into the keyhole. It had been a long day, practicing and rehearsing. Most of all, the announcement was finally announced to the public. It was too shocking, too abrupt, and too sudden. Not only for the fans, but also for himself. Messages wishing him to take care of his health, words of encouragement as well as all the best flooded his phone the minute the news was released.
He lethargically turned the key to the right and pushed the door. The door that he had opened for the past four to five years, the door that held so memories behind it, the door that led to his comfort place, and the door he would not open till around two years later. Sighing, he kicked his shoes off his feet and aligned them in an area with the other shoes of his band members. It was a messy, familiar sight - all the shoes thrown around in a somewhat organized manner. Heechul smiled as fond memories of Donghae searching the whole pile for his best pair of shoes and the day where he found Ryeowook and Eunhyuk working to organize the shoes. Somehow the shoe cabinets never played its role.
Stepping into the dorm, he hung his coat on the hanger and placed his cap above it. This action had developed a routine over the past few years. His new place of stay in a few days’ time would not have this hanger standing at the side like a welcome stand. Turning towards the living room where all the members would gather together to watch television programs or sleep together during the summer as it was the only room with an air conditioner, he strangely found thirteen heads looking at him - twelve men and one cat.
They were sitting on the couch, lying on the floor or standing around. But all had a look of sadness as they looked at their beloved older brother. Heechul examined each and every of their faces - some looked like they had cried their eyes out, some were too upset that no tears could flow and some other were resisting their tears from flowing. He looked down, biting his lip. Dropping his bag at his side, he slowly walked to stand in front of the television.
Taking a deep breath, he knew that this day would come. He swallowed, carefully thinking of the words he should say. Clasping his hands together, he looked up at those faces he would want to see again after his military service.
“I… Don’t really know what I should say. The news came out and I believed you all know about it already.” He started, looking sincerely into each and every member’s eyes. “This day will come, all of you know it.” He swallowed.
Heechul saw a few of the members looking down, some others looking up to stop their tears from rolling down their cheeks.
“It will pass quickly. Really. Soon I’ll be back here and we can have a party, yes?”
Eunhyuk reached for the tissue box. Eeteuk rubbed his eyes against the sleeve of his shirt. Ryeowook moved to hug Yesung.
“And… I’ll still be your Kim Hee Chul!” He said in an attempt to brighten up the mood when his tears were already rolling down his cheeks and landing on the marble floor.
Siwon stood up from the couch and walked over to hug Heechul, his beloved hyung who he has been praying for without fail every single day of his life. Shindong followed. Then Donghae. Sungmin. Kibum. Kyuhyun. Zhou Mi. Yesung. Ryeowook. Eunhyuk. Henry. Eeteuk.
Heechul felt his shoulder getting wetter with every hug. He caressed each member’s head, whispering in their ears that he loves them.
“I’m hugging on behalf of Hankyung,” Eeteuk hugged him the first time and released.
“And Kangin,” second hug.
“Myself,” third hug.
“Super Junior,” the last and longest hug.
The two eldest stood hugging in the middle of the living room and the other members soon formed a mass hug around them, each one crying and comforting one another. They knew, that this day would come for Heechul, and Eeteuk, and subsequently each and every one of them. In their hearts, Heechul would always be their older brother, the crazy and sentimental one, yet serious and calm.
They released the mass hug and many started to wipe their tears. “C’mon, y’all do find without me! And all of you don’t need me to take care of you! Well, at least Heebum can take care of you while I’m not here!” Heechul opened his arms and carried Heebum.
All of them smiled momentarily, each thanking Heechul in their minds for always being here for them.
