Here are some mnemonics Leanne and I made up for our chem test yesterday. Here's challenge: Try and figure out what they helped us remember. Try to guess! If you can't figure out anything, tell me and I'll post them for you :-) Have fun ( Read more... )

These are hard, especially since I don't even know what kind of chem this is, but I have some guesses:
-"Kitties are good..." is cations are + and anions are -
-the tin man one means Sn is the symbol for tin
-"When you're sick..." means Hg is the symbol for mercury

1) Deci 1/10, centi 10^-2, milli 10^-3, micro 10^-6, nano 10^-9, pico 10^-12, femto 10^-15

2) Might be referring to metalloids

3) I can't figure this one out, but I would guess "see you" is copper, ferris wheel is iron, and peanut buttery is lead

5) No idea

You win :-)
1) You're right
2) You're right (our teacher was very particular about which metalloids were really metalloids for us)
3) It's to remember charges on atom. The first part is the elements in the transition group with only one ion: A=Ag+1, C=Cd+2, Z=Zn+2
Then the second part is the four elements with two ions with the special names (ous, ic): Copper +1 and +2; Iron +2 and +3; Lead +2 and +4; Tin +2 and +4 (both groups go up in charge in alphabetical order :-))
4) Was easy
5) Is metric abbreviations going up: deka, heka, kilo, Mega, Giga, Tera
