So, I started to write this, and it suddenly took a hard left turn into medical TMI and a long-winded attempts to get My Thoughts On Achalasia*, And Specifically Where I Am Now, a year after my operation, down on virtual paper - as such I wrote it mainly for my own benefit, and it is very stream-of-couciousy and rambly and tl;dr.

Seriously, begins with digestive TMI )

*hugs you* Oh, honey. That all sounds most irritating to have to deal with. I'm totally here for listening, whenever you want. I can totally empathasise about denail.

And you're pretty fucking awesome, just so you know what my conclusions are :)

Thank you *big hugs back* Irritating is the word - much better something be chronic and irritating than painful or seriously inconvenient, but still, arrgh.
And yeah, denial. If we bought a small beach hut in Egypt together, by the river, we would at least have better weather for denying everything.

*hugs* I am extremely glad that things are improved and you're not in pain. I hope they improve even further, but feeling that you could cope in this state forever is great - that's all any of us wants, really. Yay for modern medicine! And for you being able to write all of this in a calm way, which is excellent. (Self-blame is so shit, isn't it?)

"Failure to relax" makes you sound like Miles Vorkosigan and need to be sat on periodically. I am amused. xx

Aw, thanks ... Self-blame is the shittest, and it's so easy to fall into, I think particularly for introspective people. Modern medicine is so cool - I read an article yesterday (which I do about twice a year, I hardly ever feel like seeking further information) entitled "Treating achalasia: from whalebone to laparoscope" about 300 years of treatment practice, starting with pieces of whalebone and ending up at keyhole surgery - I am always in awe of the things doctors can do nowadays.

I'm not sure sitting on Miles would do anything to make him relax, though ...

Whalebone? As in, poking it down the oesophagus to widen it, or something else unpleasant-sounding? Good thing you live now. (And yes, modern medicine is great. I said yesterday, àpropos of nothing, "Isn't it great that we've discovered antibiotics?". Because seriously, without them things would be so awful.

You might be right there.
