You should listen to some Saul Williams. He's an artist out of Brooklyn who has a really neat style/sound and most of his songs harp on the same theme.
Re: his spoken word... I prefer the music, mostly because his spoken word sounds to me like music just belongs with it. It's the equivalent of rapping the lyrics of a song without the song. But I have a bias towards a soundtrack behind everything so that might just be me.
I also love his music because of all the other artists who have joined in on it, like de la Roche and Reznor. It's awesome to hear his music with those other contributions backing it up. It's like nothing I've ever heard before.
We own all the DVD collections, and the trade collections of his comic strip! I've been following Aaron McGreuger (sp?) since High School!!! Yes. He is the best. And yes, as is Saul Williams. His books are great to give as reading material to high schoolers. AMAZING!
