I'm going on a cruise next week, and I'd like to take a good book with me. I'm going with some friends, so I don't really know how far I'll get, but I'd really like to try to get some quality reading done ( Read more... )

It's one of my favorite books ever, and would be a strong contender for the top slot if I ever sat down and figured out what book is deserving.

All good suggestions, though I'm not familiar with McKillip (yet). However, I'd argue that Baroque Cycle is way too dense for cruise reading. They are tomes. Snow Crash is the obvious Stephenson alternative, but I've always liked Diamond Age better.

Well aren't you just Miss Supersmart-Readiepants? Not to say I didn't like Baroque Cycle or anything. I did. But it was a fairly serious investment in wanting to work through it all. It's like a million pages, all told.
