Compilation zine time!

I want to make a compilation zine. It's going to be called Crossing Borders, a title which has been hanging around in my head for a long time. The idea is to produce a zine which provokes thought about how we define belonging, borders and boundaries - whether in relation to nations, sexuality, race, class, gender, etc.

Each issue will be themed around a word. The first issue will focus on ‘home’. How do we define what home is and why? Is it the place you live, the place you were born, both or neither? Is it wherever you feel safe or is it nowhere at all?

Some ideas:
  • Border controls: why does nationality restrict where you choose to make your home? Also national identities - whether self-defined or imposed upon us, why are our identities so often heavily defined by our ‘home’ countries?
  • Histories of empire/colonialism - home and national belonging, race and racism, stories of immigration/emigration
  • Home as a place of safety - is this your experience?
  • Is home a place? A person? A country? A feeling?
  • Personal stories: Your first/new/favourite home
  • Stories of leaving or being forced to leave home
  • Homelessness and exclusion
  • ‘Alternative’ homes: squats, collectives, houseboats, mobile homes, etc.
  • Come up with your own!

Be part of this zine! If you are interested in writing something, please comment here or email me:
