Coincidence

After my meeting with Eileen, I was thinking about how much I dislike being alone, and how much I've felt cheated by being born a woman.  These have been recurring struggles for me.

It may seem odd that I like working from home, but I interact with people all the time through the work day.  It's the slow times where I get antsy and uncomfortable.

I've always loved that Maya Angelou poem, but I hadn't heard the other one. Man! I loved that, and the presentation in the video is wonderful. I'm so saving that for my classes!

That totally surprises me! I always have to remind myself of some of the good things about it. Maybe someday I'll grow out of it :)

There's a book I think you might like. You might think it's kind of weird. It's called "Cosmetics, Fashions and the Exploitation of women." It chronicles a debate about the relationship between social standards of beauty, women's socially-induced insecurities, the "family," and the needs generated by consumerism ( ... )

Sounds pretty cool. I almost never wear makeup. Sometimes it can be fun. Social expectations for how women should look are really frustrating. I have a few book in line ahead of this. I'll let you know once I've gotten to read it. Thanks!

Really, you gotta read this thing. It's not just about cosmetics, etc., but relationships between men and women, their respective roles in society. One thing I would add (the book came out in the mid-80s) is that the marketeers of beauty have added young males to their target market. Nick and Brendan buy things and do things for and to themselves that would have gotten me beaten up in my day. I mean, they even pluck their eyebrows!
