Chocolate!

With the move and all we're TOTALLY broke.  Since we can't really spend much on gifts this year, I'm trying to make candy for family for Christmas.  This weekend I started on truffles.  I've never made them before, but I think they're really pretty and tasty.  I'm planning to make ( Read more... )

You are doing Christmas just right! Forget the gifts (and the money issue). Go with the chocolate - who doesn't like it?
And the ornaments. Since I got divorced (12 years ago)and ended up in a little apartment I haven't bought a tree. But I have this little two-foot tall artificial thing that I bring out of the closet every year and I drape it in garlands and lights.
And I have a couple of ornaments (not very fancy) made by Nick and Brendan, and my niece Kari, when they were all very young.
The kids will love the ornaments. Let somebody else spend $65 for a video game or whatever. In a month the game will be over but next year, the kids will look for those ornaments to be hung on the tree. And the year after, and the year...

I was going to say but you beat me to it - enjoy making those gifts, there is so much you could do w/o spending much. And what about gifts in a jar - cocoa mixes, soups, bath salts, etc. Look here for ideas: www.marthastewart.com as of lately, this is my 'relaxation' website.
