A red and green sweater.

I was wondering, what does the red and green sweater have anything to do with aliens? Does it represent the alien containing humanistic characteristics? Do the colors red and green specifically represent anything? And why is it an alien? Why couldn't it be a donkey or something ( Read more... )

Just to add on (even though shiro_no_wired explained the symbolism perfectly), there's also another way to view the red and green stripes. It has to do with sight and biology. It seems that the most usual form of color-blindness deals with the person not being able to clearly distinguish between the colors of red and green. They seem toned down and look like the same color. This could also interestingly have something to do with nonduality. To anyone who is seen as "blind", blindness being seen as unusual and not a common factor, the red and green stripes seem to be one. But, uh, I kinda just pulled that explination out of my ass. Hell, just view it however you want! :p

The sweater is tied to some English folklore, it's the same reason Freddy wears the red/green sweater.

And Karldon is right, there's many things that were added to the series and bare no real significance to the main theme. This fact was confirmed during my correspondance with Mr. Konaka and again when I asked Mr. Ueda and ABe about it during an IRC chat.
