Speaking personally, I don't care for Shyamalan...he's an arch-conseravtive whose films mostly rely on cheap tricks. And it's really far better suited to animation.
I also think the interperative elements are what make Lain as graet as it is. It's a work of incredible scope that transcends all genre. As far as works of postmodern science fiction in the visual media, it's completely beyond nearly anything else.
If you're really into the philosophical side of Lain, check out http://www.dioxy.org/ (but prepare to be confused). It really goes into many of the concepts that were put into it.
I can understand though your view on keeping Lain as an animation purely. But I swear 'em Americans (not counting the otaku) would want to redo everything the Japs do. It's a sad thing, and yet, it's not all that bad.
Shyamalaan's not all that bad. But then again, that's also just my opinion.
I'm creating a fanzine called Brilliant Luck, and the first issue is covering anime, manga, webcomics, and video games that fall under the theme Psychological Suspense. I was wondering if I could use your Serial Experiment Lain review (just the first part, not the secondary opinions or additional notes) in the magazine. I would really like to have a good, in-depth review of Lain in the 'zine, and would be very glad if I could include yours.
I definitely agree. I've even commented on your journal. Oh yes; I'm willing to rework my review for your e-zine (it was written mainly as a LJ sort of entry). As to the name and address; we'd have to discuss it over the web (I'm fine with my LJ as my address, but I'm not sure which name I should use...)
