"Children are bombed and women are raped nearly every day, yet nobody in America drapes themselves in the colors of the Iraqi flag then."

and you're right, we should be.
Pluse, if we're going to mourn people who have died, even if we're not ready to mourn people from another country, let's at least worry about the American soldiers who have died in this stupid war. That number's not decreasing, either.

I have similar feelings you do. I am a Virginia state resident, and the year I graduated from high school (4 years ago), more graduates went to VT than any other college. The same for the two years sandwiching mine. Though thankfully no one I know was killed, I know people who were severely affected and with good reason. I do not have much empathy (for this I have some guilt about) for VT's situation. Somebody quite level headed explained some things to me about it I didn't get that are also some good counterpoints to some of your arguments about why people are so affected by VT and not Iraq ( ... )

Millions died in the crusades! DOWN WITH CURRENT TRAGEDY. It's usually thought of in America as tragic because it's not actually within the confines of war but rather in close proximity.

Moreso because ONE PERSON with such a mindset was compelled to, in humanistic terms, slaughter people face to face rather than some cowardly bomber or sniper in the confines of war, although Cho Seung-Hui was equally a coward.
