News flash: Wi-fi does not imply high-speed internet, apparently. I've become spoiled, perhaps, but when LiveJournal posts time out and no online audio or video will play... I feel like I've back-tracked to the 2800baud days.
Some of you might already know that I've recently started working for the same company as
crazymike. So at present, the ever-headstrong artist is sitting in a cheap (though not inexpensive) hotel, plunking out a blog entry on the only computer with an internet connection, ironically also being the computer that is barred from 99% of all "personal" activity.
So until I get a wi-fi card for my desktop computer, this is as thrilling as it gets (although it takes about an hour to check my e-mail on this computer, so that's a good way to pass time). And afterward? Oh, the things I'll be able to do... well, except for Skype, Pandora, YouTube, deviantArt, e-mailing large files (like that artwork thing that's supposed to be my day job), or World of Warcraft. The days will just sail by, I tell you.
It feels like Gilligan's Island, but with the polar bear from Lost running around somewhere. And fewer coconut trees, since this is Oklahoma, and trees of any variety are in short supply.
Hopefully, I'll be able to get a laptop of my own by the time I'm through with this assignment. That way, if I wind up in the Hotel that Time Forgot again, I can hoof it down to the local Starbuck's and leech off of their technology. I'd wager the average espresso machine has a better internet connection, anyway.
On the brighter side of things, I seem to have a sinus infection, but it feels like it's clearing up. So maybe tomorrow I'll be less grouchy (don't place your bets yet, however). And once I can see out of both eyes again (more or less), I'll be able to try getting my feet wet in the ol' artwork pool again. Best of all, in another 29 days, I'll get to come back home and see
vkacademy again.
