In my case, two things enable me to stick with my exercise program. One is that I have a form of exercise I really enjoy. You couldn't pay me to go to a gym or jog around the streets near my home. Two, I make it a daily ritual. One hour a day, exercise. After dinner on weeknights, whenever on the weekends, but no skipping a day unless I'm sick, injured, or not at home long enough. No excuses; letting it slide one day 'cause you feel lazy leads to flaking out regularly.

Hope this helps...

Amanda and I joined a gym last year... that was a huge waste of money. We went for a while but couldn't keep it up, especially when Amanda started having breathing problems. But we figured out that we could get an elliptical machine cheap off of craigslist. I found one for like $200 (aka 3 months of a 2-person gym membership) and put it in front of the TV in the living room ( ... )

I still have trouble keeping that motivation. You really have to force yourself to do it until it becomes routine.
I personally hate working out by myself. I find it to be very boring. That's why I prefer to take the classes at the gym. It also gives me an exact time that I need to be there in order to take the class, so it's more structured. It might help if you have someone to work with you sometimes and work out at the same time every day.
Also, I have found that if things get boring and you start giving yourself excuses not to work out then you need to change things up and try something different for a few weeks. The same thing goes if you hit one weight and then just stay there. Your body gets used to one particular routine after a while and it stops being as effective.

I was on that same cycle for a long time- I'd get really into exercise and then after about 6 weeks I would flake out and before I knew it I was sedentary again. When I realized how many people in my family have heart issues and cancer it scared the shit out of me. I want to live to pester my children for a very, very long time. I do Weight Watchers and can control my eating but exercise was never my favorite thing ( ... )

Forgot to add that once you do it for a while you will start to feel the benefits even if you can't see them right away. I feel really grouchy and out of sorts if I skip workouts- let's face it I am a raging bitch. I have issues with depression and panic attacks and when I don't workout I feel both increase. I use exercise as my me time, something that is hard to find when you are a stay at home mom. I schedule my exercise like a Dr. appointment because in a way it is- it helps me to be healthy. I wouldn't flake out on a Dr. appointment so it really helps to think of it that way.
