that sudden rush of adrenaline and emotion when you read a poem and that desire to connect through its rhymes and yet at the same time i was struck by an acute sadness, knowing that i can never fully and completely understand its depth or intent.
I feel that way about the poems I read, and songs too. With those things, all we are left with is the process of interpretation, and in that sometimes I feel like I lack a depth of mind.
also wanted to say -- don't feel sad about not understanding a poem -- what you feel of it is what you understand, and meanings/interpretations are so subjective that most of the time these things just mean differently to different people. when i don't understand poems (for classes) i end up going to the library and reading lots of criticism, it takes forever but that's another way to have meanings unveiled. or...drop the writers a note, most would be very happy knowing they are read and would probably love to chat and talk about what they intended!
