[CHARACTER INFO]
CHARACTER NAME: Axel
FANDOM: Kingdom Hearts (videogame)
CHRONOLOGY: Post death in KHII. Including all games + manga and novel influences for characterization
BACKGROUND:
The world of Kingdom Hearts is fairly complex, but can be divided into a few "realms"; the realm of light, the realm of darkness, the realm between (twilight) and the realm of nothingness. Most worlds exist in the realm of light, including all of the Disney-based worlds in the Kingdom Hearts games. The realm of darkness doesn't consist of much, mostly just dark, as the name clearly implies. The twilight inbetween houses a few different worlds such as Twilight Town, Traverse Town and The World That Never Was. In this universe, every sentient being has a "heart", or a spirit. These hearts are filled with light and with darkness. If the heart becomes TOO steeped in darkness, it creates a Heartless. Heartless are the darkness of people's hearts given physical shape. Heartless can also "steal" the hearts of others. When a human or other sentient being loses their heart, the heart becomes a Heartless (weird, yes) and the remaining body and soul congeal into what is known as a "Nobody" (also dumb naming). Axel is one of these; a Nobody. Because his will as a human was strong, his Nobody has a human shape. The location of the Heartless that was created when the man "Lea" lost his heart is not known.
As a Nobody, Axel's greatest desire is to find his heart and restore himself to his full self. To this end, he joined Organization XIII, a group of Nobodies who, at least on the surface, desire to become whole again. It is in the Organization that Axel looses a former friend and gains two new ones; Roxas and Xion. Because Roxas and Xion are derived from Sora, ( the series' protagonist with a heart so full of light it can't even be contained), they are both capable of feeling emotions, unlike other Nobodies. As Axel spends more time with them, their emotions seem to rub off on him, giving HIM true emotions as well. Eventually, it is revealed that the Queen of Mary Sues, Xion, is NOT a true Nobody, but is instead an incomplete replica of Sora created from leaked memories. Xion and Roxas fight, and Roxas wins. Xion joins with Roxas, creating a more "complete" Nobody of Sora. And I swear this is all relevant. Before Xion fades, she inspires Roxas to strike out on his own and seek out his own answers, and maybe eventually rejoin with Sora. This causes Roxas to leave the Organization. The Superior of the Organization sends Axel to retrieve him, dead or alive. Axel begrudgingly accepts, even though Roxas is what amounts to his two best friends in one. He attempts to take Roxas back alive, but becomes distraught and upset when Roxas doesn't remember him, since the boy had his memories altered in order to keep him away from the Organization. Axel takes on Roxas one more time and is beaten. Instead of returning to the World that Never Was to report his failure, Axel chooses to go AWOL with the intent of getting his friend back by any means necessary. In the mean time, Roxas merges with Sora, though not completely; their consciousnesses remain separate.
Axel then captures Kairi, one of Sora's most beloved childhood friends, with the intent to draw Sora out and steal his heart. After all, by Axelogic, if Sora lost his heart again, Roxas would be reborn. However, Kairi escapes and then is captured by Saïx, another member of the Organization to be used as HIS pawn. Poor Kairi. Axel realizes his mistake and apologizes to Sora for kidnapping Kairi. Sora, his companions and Axel become trapped in a corridor of darkness, a passageway between worlds, and are attacked by Dusks, a type of Nobody. Axel uses the last of his power to destroy the creatures and save Sora then opens a portal for Sora to get to the World That Never Was to save Kairi. He apologizes again and when Sora asks why he sacrificed himself, Axel answers that Sora "made him feel like he had a Heart" just like Roxas did. Axel fades away, but according to the novel for the KH series, his soul does not disappear completely like most Nobodies, but instead wanders in the realm of darkness until he finds his heart.
Phew.
PERSONALITY:
Axel is a man of many faces and has many facets to his personality; surprising for someone who supposedly has no heart. At the beginning of the series, Axel shows himself to be much like the other Nobodies, in that he is cold, callous and out for himself. He tended to be a little more on the joking side than some of the others, with much stronger memories of what it was like to be human. Still, his merciless nature earned him the title of the Organization's assassin. When he is sent to Castle Oblivion, a secondary headquarters of the Organization, Axel acts as a double agent, growing close to a group of betrayers and even mercilessly killing an ally in order to earn their trust, only to double cross them. He crosses yet another group in the castle and his actions lead to their inevitable demise.
However, when Axel returns alone from Castle Oblivion, he begins hanging out with Roxas and Xion more frequently, enjoying ice cream with them after missions. However, as Xion and Roxas begin to question their very beings, Axel, being the selfish man he is, withholds and even lies about information in order to keep them from leaving the Organization... and him. However, this move backfires when the two's curiosity gets the better of them and both end up leaving anyway at separate times, leaving Axel in charge of bringing them back.
Once Roxas merges with Sora, Axel has still not learned his lesson and still selfishly looks for a way to get Roxas back. As the story progresses though, Axel begins to feel more and more and eventually sacrifices himself.
This is not to say Axel is NOT selfish. He's still very selfish, and a very good actor to boot. While he does have the inklings of true feelings thanks to Emotional Osmosis from Roxas and Sora, he still doesn't feel with the same intensity as humans do, so his feelings of guilt and related emotions especially are dulled. His is not all business, though, and prefers to relax and bend the rules. When with his friends, he can be downright dorky.
In short: He can be calculating and cruel, but he also likes to have fun and craves companionship. He can be prone to bouts of angst over his lack of heart, but gets over it pretty quickly. He is fully neutral and morally grey.
CLASS: Neutral. Axel caters to his own wants and needs. He has no qualms about taking lives, butr doesn't do so willy-nilly.

Testing, testing, 1, 2, 3... it's on, right? Heh.
Sooo... from what I've read, it seems no one is here because they want to be and we can't go home? Well, that last part is true. Seems like even the corridors of darkness are blocked off.. somehow. But heh, me? A hero? That Porter thing-a-doodle either has a hell of a sense of humor or even crappier aim than a blind guy.
So other than that, anything else I missed? I COULD go on reconnaissance and figure it all out myself, but why bother when there are a ton of you who've already done the hard work for me? Oh, and the first person to give me a theory on why the dark corridors that link every single world in existence are blocked here will get a cookie. Cause I'm stumped on that one.
THIRD PERSON: It had only taken Axel a few days in the City to find the most primo building to watch the sunset from. The "MeraCorp" building wasn't nearly as beautiful or charming as the clock tower in Twilight Town, but neither was the rest of the city. It was a fairly gloomy metropolis, dirty and depressing. Not nearly as much as the Dark City, but... it was close.
But it didn't matter. It didn't matter what world he was in; every world had a sky and almost every sky had at least one sun hanging in it. And when that sun set? It was always beautiful. It reminded him of days gone by, when he and his friends would sit and watch the sunset and eat ice cream. The ice cream was missing, but it was chilly out anyway.
From his perch, Axel could see the city below him. Cars screeching, people talking... the City was so alive. It gave him a little bit of hope. He doubted he would find his heart here but one never knew. Didn't matter anyway. Seemed like whatever he did, he was stuck until that Porter woman decided to send him back. Back to what though? Wandering through darkness, searching for that light?
Maybe this was a better alternative.
