Final day of Comic Con!

The final day of Comic Con- free books, the last panel, and when escalators attack!

Sunday!
Not at all surprisingly, I woke up feeling none too fabulous. I think I should stop drinking Stella, I never feel so great after the fact. So, we slept in, and Ninja Boyfriend and I made it down to the con later in the day than is our usual. We made it just in time to see the panel for the Winner twins, where they did a slideshow and talked about how they went from being teased in school dyslexics to award winning authors. I sit there and listen to them talk, and wonder if I ever sounded so hyper and young and full of energy. Sometimes, I feel old!

After their panel, we had lunch, and I took the last opportunity to catch some pics of people in costume, including this couple who were all done up as Shrek and Fiona, including their pal Donkey!

After lunch, and checking the 501st booth to see if we won anything this year (we didn't), Ninja Boyfriend and I took the escalator down from the Mezzanine to the floor. And we have done this literally dozens of times with no incident... until now! Apparently the escalator was hungry, as it attempted to eat Ninja Boyfriend's left shoe. Somehow, the side of his shoe got into the gears!

Luckily Ninja Boyfriend was ok, but we had to spend a nerve wracking few minutes waiting for the medics to come take a look at it. There was only swelling, and some abrasions inside the shoe and sock, but he was limping and just generally (understandably) upset! It's a good thing he was wearing shoes and not flip flops, cause he most likely would have lost a few toes!

After that, the rest of the day was calm- we stopped by the Hot Zombie Chicks booth to say hi to our drinking companions of the night before (who had had a similar morning to mine!) And picked up their comic and some stickers.

After that, it was time for one last pass through publisher's alley and one final line to stand in, at the Penguin Young Reader's booth. While we stood in line, Thomas Jane walked past the line, and everyone was like "hey, it's Thomas Jane!" He is shorter in real life than he seems on screen. And Ninja Boyfriend yelled out after him as he walked by "you're hung!" To which the rest of the line laughed, thus proving that we are by far not the only people who watch his show after True Blood and think it's hilarious.

As we walked out and went to go pick up the checked carts (the whole con, my parents checked these small rolling carts so that at night, we could put our stuff in the carts and not have to drag tons of different bags on our shoulders to the trolley. It was a great idea!) I saw Altair, from the first Assassin's Creed game. The guy did the costume really well, and even obliged my request for a shot of him trying to assassinate Ninja Boyfriend!

The hall closed at 5:00, and as we waited for the trolley, I took a picture of Ninja Boyfriend in front of the Green Hornet car.

We also saw some protesters, not crazy church people this time, but a guy with a sign (and a goat?!) that was like "don't goat to Anaheim!" (photo not mine, borrowed from www.theliberaloc.com/2010/07/26/comiccon-attendees-protest-possible-move-to-anaheim/) I am in agreement, even though I currently live in Orange County, I don't want the Con to come to Anaheim. There is no parking, and no nightlife, not compared to downtown San Diego. And San Diego is and always will be my home town, so I like that it's claim to fame  has more than just Sea World and the Zoo.

After dinner with the parents and the drive home, I had to do a last sort of what came home with me. So, here's the list of books I bought (aside from the Winner twins books and the comics/graphic novels):

The Passage (Justin Cronin, signed)
Sandman Slim (Richard Kadrey, signed)
Touched by an Alien (Gini Koch, signed)
Butcher Bird: A Novel of the Dominion (Richard Kadrey, signed)

And the ones I got for free!
