grow soy (fairly common in north carolina and the southeast; in the industrialized northeast..well nothing is sustainable about a city in the first place), or if not possible wheat (hence seitan). or just a specific combination of vegetables (depending on where they are grown) that can provide a balanced diet. if numerous people can do it while merely foraging in the woods (and they do, and they remain vegan and healthy) then it is possible.
local speciesism? no thanks

do these foragers have jobs? or anything to do besides forage for their food?

and not everyone has a huge plot of land or even a small plot of land to grow their own veggies. i think the mindful consumption of eggs is far more practical for those of us not able to spend our days walking through the forest.

the article talks about getting locally grown food, not growing it on your own. i imagine that somewhere within their 100 mile radius there are farms growing vegetables. seriously.

well, i am not claiming to be a farming guru, but i do know that not all climates/regions are temperate enough to allow for a "specific" combination of vegetables, or grains. and i am not 100% on this, but i think the soy that grows in different parts of the united states has been modified to do so, and are not native to those lands...another thing many regions can't rely on(outside resources being introduced). i am not saying that any of the above is wrong or not healthy or impossible. but i am also not saying that any of it is right or the only way. however, i do think it is ridiculous to assume that all areas and peoples in those areas have the same means to provide for themselves ( ... )
