Dean's Leather Jacket
There are a few inanimate objects on Supernatural that get royal treatment - and they all belong to Dean. There's the Impala, the amulet, and Dean's leather jacket. It's iconic and something we immediately associate with Dean. Before it belonged to Dean, it belonged to John - so there's no telling how old the leather is, how many battles the jacket has actually seen - it is well worn and beautiful. Dean wears it whenever he knows there’s no danger of it getting ruined. It’s really Dean’s superhero signature look.
Brand Information: Wilsons Leather (There are two models of this jacket. The standard "Wilsons Leather" is the one used on the show, the other model "M Julian by Wilsons Leather" has slightly different pocket seams.)
APPEARANCES:
In the Pilot (1x01) Dean
picks up the Leather Jacket from John's abandoned motel room on his second day in Jericho, right after showering off all the mud and right before getting arrested. He wears it for the remainder of the episode.
In Wendigo (1x02) Dean wears it while Sam and him do their preliminary research.
In Dead In The Water (1x03) Dean wears it for the entire episode, except when he and Sam dig up the bicycle and jump in the water.
In Phantom Traveler (1x04) Dean wears it when they go to meet Jerry and then again when they say goodbye to Jerry at the end.
In Bloody Mary (1x05), Dean wears it from when they arrive until they have to go to Fort Wayne for research (he switches to another coat for that trip) then again when it’s time to say goodbye and drive out of town.
In Hookman (1x07), Dean wears it from the beginning of the episode until the night Sam is arrested out on 9 mile road.
In Bugs (1x08), Dean wears it for the entire episode...except in the shower, of course.
In Home (1x09), Dean wears it for the goodbye scene at the very end.
In Route 666 (1x13), Dean is wearing his leather jacket in Bismarck, Kentucky, when he hears Cassie’s voicemail asking him for help and when he arrives to see her in Girardeau, Missouri.
In Nightmare (1x14), Dean puts it on in the final scene of the episode as he and Sam pack up and leave the motel.
In Hell House (1x17), Dean is wearing it while he and Sam drive through Texas through until the “second” murder (which is actually the first). He wears it again when he and Sam confront the record store guy about lying, and at the very end of the episode when Harry and Ed leave.
In Something Wicked (1x18), Dean wears it for the entire episode. He only takes it off when he wears a suit to the hospital (the first time), and when he is inside their motel room. This is one of the rare times Dean is wearing the Leather Jacket when he kills the monster.
In Dead Man’s Blood (1x20), Dean wears it for the entire episode, except for when he is at the diner with Sam at the beginning of the episode, and when he talks to his Dad at the very end of the episode. It’s another rare time that Dean wears the leather jacket while fighting the monsters.
In Everybody Loves A Clown (2x02), Dean is wearing it at John’s funeral pyre.
In Bloodlust (2x03), Dean is first seen wearing it when they arrive at the bar and find Gordon. He keeps it on for the rest of the episode. Again, that means that Dean is wearing it during the fight scenes.
In Children Shouldn’t Play With Dead Things (2x04), Dean wears it at the very end of the episode when he tells Sam about his suspicions of why their Dad died after Dean made his miraculous full recovery.
In Simon Said (2x05), Dean wears it from the beginning of the episode until they get to the Roadhouse to get Ash’s help. He’s taken if off by the time Ash finds his pants and hauls out his computer. Dean doesn’t wear it again until they return to the Roadhouse at the end of the episode.
In No Exit (2x06), Dean is wearing it at the end of the episode as he drives Ellen and Jo back to the Roadhouse and when Jo reveals the history between their fathers.

In Playthings (2x11), Dean wears it at the beginning of the episode when he comes into the motel room with coffee. He then immediately takes it off. The morning Sam is nursing his hangover, Dean walks into the room wearing the leather jacket and takes it off while he teases Sam. He has it on again when he and Sam break into the owner’s apartment to talk to Grandma Rose, and he leaves it on for the rest of the episode.
In Houses of the Holy (2x13), Dean wears it whenever he is outside, but not when he is inside - except for the very end when he comes back to the motel to tell Sam what he saw.
In Roadkill (2x16), Dean is wearing it during the flashbacks of Sam telling him about the highway and them doing research.
In Sin City (3x04), Dean picks it up as they are leaving Bobby’s, but we don’t see him wear it until they go to check out the bar. He keeps it on until he disarms the gunman and notices that Ritchie has disappeared. He wears it again at the very end of the episode when he talks to Bobby about what Azazel said.
In A Very Supernatural Christmas (3x08), we see Dean take off the leather jacket when he arrives at the motel and Sam puts forth the idea of the anti-Claus (until this point, the boys have worn suits). He then wears it every time they are not in the motel for the rest of the episode (we see him take it off every scene that has him entering the motel room.) The Pagan Gods also removed it when he was unconscious before they tied him up, but he recovers after they are dead of course.
In Long Distance Call (3x14), Dean is wearing it at the beginning of the episode when he and Sam are at the university and he gets the call from Bobby about the hunt.
In In The Beginning (4x03), Dean has his leather jacket with him for the entire episode. First, he is using it as a cover while he sleeps, even though he is laying on top of a perfectly good motel bed. When he wakes up in Lawrence, he is still using it as a cover, this time on a bench. He puts it on to go to the diner and stalk his dad. When he joins the Campbell’s for dinner, he takes it off while he eats. He then wears a priest outfit briefly. When he tells Samuel about the yellow-eyed demon and the colt, he is not wearing the jacket, but he puts it on again before he talks to Mary as he’s leaving for Colorado. He then wears it for the rest of the episode, until he wakes up back in 2008, and his coat is his cover again. He puts it on as soon as Castiel tells him to go find Sam.
In Metamorphosis (4x04), Dean is still wearing this jacket at the beginning of the episode, since the action follows immediately from the previous episode. He changes out of it after his fight with Sam, and before the drive to Carthage to check out Jack Montgomery.
In Family Remains (4x11), Dean wears in the final scene of the episode, when he admits to enjoying his turn as torturer in Hell.

In 99 Problems (5x17), Dean changes into the leather jacket before seeing Lisa.
In Point of No Return (5x18), we see Dean fold and seal the jacket in a box addressed to Bobby’s house at the beginning of the episode.
In Swan Song (5x22), Dean wears it from the beginning of the episode until he says goodbye to Bobby after Sam’s death.
In Exile on Main St. (6x01), Dean reveals that he keeps the leather jacket in a storage box with other hunting supplies. This is the last time we see the leather jacket:
FATE: We all know that the Leather Jacket is invincible - unfortunately, in the summer of 2010, the leather jacket was stolen along with some other wardrobe, when the production office sent it down to LA for a photo-shoot. The leather jacket seems to have been irreplaceable. Jensen has reported that they’ve tried to get replacements, but that none so far have fit him properly.
