( my 'people skills' are 'rusty', pardon me, but I have spent the past 'year' as a multidimensional wavelength of celestrial intent. )

I think souless!Sam knew about alive and rejuiced Cas because he has seen live!Bobby presumably to ask him not to clue Dean in. Bobby probably told him all about it. Resouled!Sam doesn't know because that part of his time back is stuck behind the wall with souless!Sam. The Campbells maybe filled Sam in on Bobby being alive. I'm still really wondering how Sam ended up with the Campbells. Did they find him or the other way round?

There is so much in these early episodes that makes so much more sense on the rewatch. Between Cas's shifty attitude and Sam's sociopathic behavior, it was hard to figure out where the story was headed. The only one who seemed normal was Dean and that's saying something on this show.

Oh yeah...I forgot about Bobby. :P Good point.

I've often wondered how Sam ended up with the Campbells too. It wasn't through Bobby, because he and Samuel meet for the first time later in the season...so it must have been circumstance - or maybe Crowley told Grampa to track Sam down and work with him, who knows...but that certainly would have been an interesting meeting.

The only one who seemed normal was Dean and that's saying something on this show.

No kidding! It also explains why the beginning of S6 was so rough on Jensen. He's basically the only one we can relate to at this point and therefore the audience surrogate - and on top of it all, he can't fall back on his normal acting rhythms because his normal acting-partners are all playing mysterious weird guys. :P
