Rewatch S7: Shut-Up, Dr. Phil (7x05)

Okay, time for Buffy people. I am one of those very very few people who are not Buffy fans. It's no fault of Buffy's of course. I just really hate vampire-centric shows. I'm racist against vampires really, it would be a huge character fault, if they were real...as it is, it just means that I can't enjoy a very small percentage of pop culture.

Anyway ( Read more... )

Don't worry about sounding negative--you have a knack for making negative comments in an amusing way :)

And giving us a little bit of 'if they'd have just done this it would have worked better' is actually helpful in easing my moments of distress :)

Oh good, thank you. That makes me feel better. I really do try to only enjoy the show, because I love it...but it DID annoy me a little this past year, just because of failed potential to be so much better! :P

Maybe Maggie was using the "world is flat--he could fall off" idea as just an excuse -- ie she knew it wasn't, but now that she has to defend herself that's her story?

I do agree that they really dropped the Sam is insane storyline way too fast and then didn't let it build back up enough before the big breakdown...

Nice try at rationalizing, but there's no way Don would by that excuse! :P

I'll always love this eppy because I was on location watching them film for an entire day and night. It was awesome! :D

The bit at the end w/the Leviathan irked me 'cause the guys said they had to figure out what Chet was. Uh..WHAT??? You shoot him and get black goo. Bobby just told them that the Levis bled black goo! Did they have a memory lapse? Another mistake by the writers. Grrrr.

I know a lot of fans bitch about this eppy because the boys let the witches go. It's not that they let them go, they tried a spell and it failed. Then Plan B was simply about cooling them down so they'd stop killing people. It's still a win. I think what keeps the show real is that the guys don't always save the day or kill the big bad. Sometimes you have to take the small victories instead of the big ones.

I agree completely!

Yes, the Mentalists holds a special place in my heart for that reason.

Yeah, I thought they figured out that the "chompers" were leviathan back in episode 3 (personally, I think Bobby should have figured it out in episode 2.) ( ... )

Sam just meant that they have to figure out how it works and how to kill it...

Well if that's the case, it was poorly written dialog then. Because Don says "What is that thing?" or something to that effect and Sam goes, "We should figure that out". Well they know what it is...or at least they should have. Sure, we, the audience knew Chet was after them and the guys didn't, but the clues were all there...plus that line from Edgar about them being worthy for annihilation should've been a big clue that they were on the Levi's Most Wanted List. Duh. :P

the fact that they're going on smaller hunts when there's obviously crazy big-mouth unkillable monsters eating people out there kind of annoys me.

This has been brought up on the show in the past. I think it was Season 5 and Sam complained that they had bigger things to deal with....maybe it was Monster Movie? Anyway, Dean said something about them not always being able to deal with the big problem. They still need to be out there saving people, hunting things.

Yeah, that's always their excuse - and they did do it at the beginning of the previous episode... but it's like you said, it's just poorly written dialogue, because it feels like they've forgotten about the problem, rather than the idea that they're still concerned about it.

Haha, wow, why don't you tell me what you really think? ;)

Yeah, I only watched Angel until they killed of Doyle, who was the only good character on that show. :P

I think that's a problem with a lot of S7: It could have been handled better.

Okay, I will!

1) I hated just about everything about the female main guest star. Tolerated the male.

2) I adore your reviews and devour them.

3) If you stop the reviews before the season is through, I will hunt you down. I own a real samurai sword.

LOL okay, noted!

I realized that the S8 premiere is tomorrow, which means that my Slash Fiction review will not be up until Thursday night at the earliest... but I WILL finish the season, I promise. ;)

Completely off-topic, but have you ever come across Livia Blackburne's blog? She blogs about writing and character analysis from a neuroscience perspective. She's not posting a lot at the moment due to her dissertation, but the way she presents stuff is fascinating to me. The awesomely analytical style kind of reminds me of the way you present stuff sometimes, and I've found a lot of her older posts interesting too.

Anyhoo, rewatch comments.

I love them talking down the two witches through couple's therapy. Like a lot of the episodes this season, I didn't think this was a bad episode, per say. It just didn't matter. I did love James Marsters in it though, his character cracked me up and I like the actor anyway.

And then Bobby dies, and Dean is all like KILL LEVIATHAN, and Sam is like, okay, but first GHOSTS AND SHIT! WOO! And Dean is like "UGH" And then Sam is like "NO I GO CRAZY" and Dean is like "OH NOW YOU WANT TO GO CRAZY?! WHERE WAS THE BUILD UP?! IT COULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER EXCUSE TO NOT BE HUNTING LEVIATHAN THIS WHOLE TIME ( ... )

Oooh, no I hadn't seen that blog before! Thanks! I've bookmarked it to check out. I love neuroscience and I love writing, so this definitely seems like a win-win blog to me! :)

I agree, it's not like this is a bad episode - it had some great funny bits in it. And I thought James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter did good jobs... but yeah, the only parts of it that really matter are in the first minute and the last two minutes.

Best summary ever.

Haha, thank you. *blushes*
