I like your explanation for Hallucifer being part of Sam's mind, and how Cas 'took' the damage. You have a lot of thinky stuff in this analysis...And I love how you describe Dean's expressions making a whole conversation, because Jensen does that all the time, and it's why he is such a rivieting actor.
I'd love to read the trenchcoat scene original dialog--is there a link to the pages that were revised?
They've joked before at ComicCon that they could probably shoot a whole episode without dialogue between Sam and Dean and still have them "talk" - and I REALLY WISH THEY WOULD. It would be amazing...even though it would be next to impossible for me to do a rewatch of it in this format :P
I'm glad you like my explanation for how Cas "took" the damage. It leads to all sorts of possible AUs in my mind - like the fact that even in Purgatory, Cas might be able to tell how Sam is doing. The possibilities are fun to think about.
Well, yeah, Castiel apologizes several times for doing this to Sam - so I think everyone is aware that this is his fault. Mind you, I also believe that this would have happened eventually anyway - Castiel just sped up the process. Dean could have had years with Sam before Sam's wall was crumbled to dust, but instead he just got one.
I think there's more to Sam's backstory than meets the eye, personally. I'm not calling character assassination until I get the full story - that being said, there's a great meta out there that actually explains how Sam's decision might still be in character. Just for the record, I never liked this Meg. I liked Nicki Aycox. I also want to know why they keep referring to the demon as 'Meg'. Meg Masters was the young lady's real name.I know, that drives me nuts too. That being said - using a false name protects the demon. We know Crowley's name is actually Fergus, etc. So, whose to say that Ruby was

I wish that they would have a clear rule regarding demon names vs the poor victim names. After eight years, you would think that they would have figured out what the rules were.
