I am surprised that you didn't get great grades in English because I think your analysis is very good. Maybe you are like me: I'm always reluctant to point out the obvious... I always think the off-the-wall theory is the most interesting... this may not be the best path to an instant good grade. :)
okay well I am really loving reading this but the hurricane is upon us and i have to go get more beans, some tp and aluminum foil. i really wish I could maybe dl your s7 reviews on my kindle. If you are like bored or whatever you could like bundle them up somewhere.... :)
my husband just got a text that literally said the worst is yet to come. WOW.
I think that I'm pretty good at analyzing things when it comes to character-motivations, but I'm not the best at "major themes" which what High School always wanted me to focus on. Ironically, it's also the part of my book that I'm having the most trouble with. :P
Stay safe in the hurricane!!
Someone offered before that I could use their mediafire/download-service account for PDFs if I wanted (because I'm reluctant to get my own for some reason.) But maybe I should just suck it up and get myself an account somewhere. I don't actually save any of my writing on my harddrive, so I'd have to go back through my journal and copy-paste my way to a PDF...so, yeah, if I do it, it'll probably have to wait until November...which sadly doesn't help give you something to read if your power goes out in the hurricane.
The episode was ok, but there was always something that bothered me. Didn't Castiel kill all the angels in 'Man who would be King? So, how are Hester, Inais, Samandiriel, and I figure some other angels, alive?
Over here in NYC, Sandy is just windy conditions, the rain is expected to get here around nine tonight.
Castiel killed all the angels that sided with Raphael in the civil war - he didn't kill those that sided with himself. Therefore members of the garrison (those sympathetic to Castiel) are probably some of the only ones left. (He may have also left the 'neutral' angels alive).
Stay safe from the storm! I hope nothing gets too damaged and it's all business as usual once the storm passes.
Ahh. So, if the Raphael followers had been a little smarter, they should have lied to Castiel.
The rain has gotten here now. There is flooding all over the place, and Sandy is not even officially here. But I live on the 15th floor, so we really only have to worry about the wind maybe picking something up from a balcony and throwing it around. That a maybe a loss of power.
But flooding, not really a problem.LOL Always got to look at the bright side of things. :)
I agree with your analysis overall, but I had to chime in specifically to agree that Cas' insanity is in large part a defense mechanism--in fact, I'm running with that idea in a slightly AU A-Team crossover that I'm... going to finish one of these days. :P (Started out as a comment-fic for spn_bigpretzel but got too angsty, and now I'm stuck on where to go when they bust Murdock out of the asylum with Cas.) It just occurred to me that he may be trying Dean's "I can't fix everything, but I can fix my car" strategy, only it doesn't quite work because Dean's usually using that to respond to things that aren't his fault and are beyond his control, whereas Cas' mess IS his fault, even if the damage is irreparable to a large degree. So I can totally understand Dean being annoyed with Cas for ducking his responsibility, intentionally or unintentionally, especially once he starts demanding a luxury Dean has never gotten: being left alone because he's broken.

I adore Kevin Tran so much. I just want to cuddle him. Yay Asian characters! :P
Also, just want to say that I agree with you so much, about everything you've said about Dean and Cas's actions. And when you were saying that Cas wasn't doing his crazy-as-deflection routine deliberately....well, it goes back to those greyhounds that can only think in ovals. When you just basically shove them off the deep end and say "Here, have free will!", it doesn't mean that they'll automatically know HOW to use it. So, it's not Cas's fault, exactly, that he doesn't know how to deal, and that this is the particular coping mechanism that's resulted. But I think Cas...is responsible for not trying to learn how at the moment. I guess.

AH HA! THERE'S the greyhound metaphor! Thanks :)
I agree with everything you say. I think for all people take Dean to task for calling Castiel a child, he kind of is one, at least when it comes to free will...and all children go through a stage where they try to shirk responsibility for their actions...or have an adult figure sort out their mistakes for them. So, Castiel is just learning, and he's learning everything the very very hard way, of course.
When this episode and the one with Charlie came out then I knew there was still hope for Supernatural. I love the character of Kevin and think this was an incredible episode!
Same here. :) Personally, as long as Ben Edlund is on the writing team, I have hope for Supernatural...it's why I kind of flipped out last year when there was that rumour that he was leaving.
