Quick Reaction: 15x08 Our Father, Who Aren't in Heaven

Dec 12, 2019 19:39

So, unfortunately, my friend’s PVR messed up and she forgot to set in motion the emergency back-up protocol, so I missed the first 16 minutes of the episode. I’ll have to download it later just for timeline purposes, but in the interest of going to bed at a decent hour tonight, I’m going to first write up what I saw.

The guest star knocks it out of the park on this one... )

Trying to remember the beginning--scared server in Vegas setting brings drink over lots of dead bodies to someone winning at slot machine--it's Chuck! He tells girl to remember how he likes his drinks and bring him another ( ... )

Thanks! That's actually a fair bit, and makes the ending even more menacing, given that he's already threatened Eileen's life... it's going to be a long wait until January!

And yeah, I was pleasantly surprised that the writing team didn't bork it up more. Though, I'm worried about Eileen - I'll be SO PISSED if they kill her again.

Honestly, Dean has always pushed Sam towards relationships, and wanting him to be happy since s1. So this seemed like normal Dean behavior to me.

I do like that the boys didn't give in to his blackmail. Yes, Chuck threatened their friends, but really, considering how he already went after Becky, that would only be a matter of time, and they can't go on with that threat hanging over their heads. In fact, Chuck doing so probably made them even more convinced they had to take him out.

I agree with you re: Dean pushing Sam towards relationships. To me, it's a sign of healthiness of their mental-state/relationship when he does it. He wants his brother to be happy and get what he wants out of life.

I missed the blackmailing part of the episode - but also agree with you there. As long as Chuck is out there moving puzzle pieces for his own amusement, anyone associated with Sam and Dean is already in danger.

I shockingly actually really really liked this episode.
Sam being worried about Eileen, and with his history of losing loved ones, who can blame him?
But also Eileen actually having a life and friends outside the Winchesters.

But most of all the way they dealt with Michael and Adam. It would have been so damn easy to turn Adam into the villain, a monster out for revenge against the brothers. But instead they did something different, something better. They had Micheal and Adam form a relationship of mutual concern. Where they look after one another, and Adam gets some say in his life. And yes, damn right Adam wanted an apology, but he wasn't out to hurt the Winchesters, because what difference would it make. But the show still gave him that well deserved apology anyway.

Agreed agreed. I was really pleasantly surprised by the overall choices they made - perhaps it was still sloppy in execution - but I LOVED the fact that they didn't make Adam into an "easy" villain, but rather someone who really DID deserve better than the hand he was dealt and STILL DOES. I also liked how they didn't turn Michael into a "big bad" either - we aren't sure what Michael is going to do next, but from what we saw, it seemed more like he and Adam just want to find peace in their new freedom.

The ep also showed some growth in Michael. Like that scene with Lilith. auMichael, or Raphael or any of the big archangels in the past would have had no issue killing anyone in that diner around them to take her out ( ... )
