I really loved this ep!! This will most likely be the last time the winchesters smile 😢😢 so I will take it. The scenes with the winchesters happily running down the hall grabbing their lunch was freaking adorable ❤️
Yup! It was a fun adorable episode, and probably the last one... so, I'm not going to judge it for it's inconsistencies too harshly. Also, it gave me dates for the timeline, so I officially like it ;)
I suppose if this wasn't one of our last 7 precious episodes I wouldn't have minded so much, but the Winchesters were very busy being non-smart because *holidays!* You could tell this was another 'concept' episode pitched in the writers' room without any purpose behind it...
And yes, it was adorable to see Sam with Thor's hammer00and Dean with the grenade launcher--but what were they after that needed that kind of firepower? I would think something that heavy would take its own episode. Or there could have been a scene where they are in the amory and Dean eggs Sam to take the heavy weapons just because they can and he's in a fun frame of mind...
(And too bad they didn't know they could have powered Jack down last season with shakes made with yarrow...)
I don't know, I'm fine with one more light-hearted doesn't-really-make-sense episode before we end. So, I'm not as disappointed.
Thor's Hammer was also always kind of played for laughs. So I'm fine with it continuing that theme here too... also, I love lacuna of not knowing why Sam felt he needed the hammer. Maybe they were going after a rawhead and needed the electricity... you can now imagine that every rawhead hunt involves Sam using the hammer - and since rawheads are S1 monsters, we don't really see those hunts anymore, because it's like a level 20 warrior killing goblins in D&D.
Light-hearted or not, I really don't care for it when they dumb down Dean or Sam. They did that with Bobby for several episodes so they would have a reason to contact Bobby because they weren't smart enough to do research on their own. I didn't understand it either when Dean broke the reset button instead of pressing the pause. That's another in a long list of head-tilting actions from our boys
( ... )
Yeah, the dumbing down thing is the most annoying and the hardest to look past. Especially the actions that go against what they JUST SAID - like when Dean breaks the reset button instead of hitting Standby, even though he was the one that came up with the Standby plan.
But yeah, I was pleased that they found a way to address the relationship between Jack and Dean (and Sam), and sort of further that along, without completely forgetting about what Jack did.
Sorry I'm late, but....I've gotta know what your take is on the holiday timeline here. They celebrated Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the 4th of July, Sam's birthday (May isn't it?), and then at the end - Jack's birthday (but isn't that in May, too?). Meanwhile, Cas was gone for all of this! Did this take place over 5 or 6 months? Can't believe Cas would've been gone from the Bunker that long.
Btw, I really liked this episode and thought it was a wise decision to hold this one until all the eps were ready. It was nice to return to the show with a light-hearted episode instead of something so dark and heavy, which I'm sure we'll be getting to with the remaining 6 episodes.
They celebrated these holidays out of order at all. Moreover, Christmas in the season has passed a long time ago, the 5 × 07 episode was the date of December 5 (the date on Dean's phone). And they have season action throughout the year
I think it DEFINITELY doesn't make sense to have celebrated Jack's birthday NOT on Jack's birthday, especially since Mrs. Butters had left by then.
Sam's birthday I suppose could be argued - if she found out she had just missed it, MAYBE she would have celebrated it belatedly.
But I do think that the most this episode took place over was a couple of weeks - maybe late April to May 18th (Jack's birthday). It was definitely a "celebrate the holidays out of season, because they weren't celebrated properly throughout the year" and not a "an entire year has passed" They really celebrated things in reverse order too (except American Thanksgiving), so definitely not a 6 month time period unless they were literally going backwards in time.
