Science Majors

Apr 02, 2009 22:45

So I talked in my last post about science majors.

Now. This was unfair. As there are many different types of science majors. And they are all different (I mean the same, but different).

First we have the physics majors. Now these guys are special. Because they are so incredibly insane that they defy explanation. And I prefer to forget that they ( Read more... )

On behalf of my other physics majors, we are not that insane. Or at least the Rice ones aren't. But I'll verify the semi-insane thing for chem majors. I heard my friend who wants to be a geochemistry (Do they have geosciences at Transy? We have it at Rice, but there are like maybe 5 majors a year.) major talking to someone in her study group saying "Oh my God, I can't wait til we start transition metal chemistry."

We don't have plain biology at Rice. You're forced to specialize in either biochem or ecology/evolutionary biology. They don't really have major quirks separating them that much though. But my favorite is the pre-meds who decide to major in ecology and evolutionary biology. Because the upper level classes are so easy compared to the upper level biochem courses and I'm just like "Don't you think the medical schools are going to realize you took this as an out?"

... You can be the exception that proves the rule. You can spot ours. They are always sitting there. Staring off into space. Mumbling. It is all very strange.

We don't have geochemistry, due mainly, I think, to the fact that we have 1100 students.

Maybe they are taking evolutionary biology because it sounds AWESOME. Where as biochemistry sounds less so?

How are you?

It does sound awesome, but really random for pre-meds.

I'm good. I feel guilty for not talking to you all more often. I'm keeping surprisingly busy, but it makes me happy. I declared my major this week. How goes life at Transy? It's good to see your orgo ordeal worked out.

Yeah. Maybe. But I'm pre-med and I'm majoring in psychology. So. Who knows.

I feel bad for not talking to everyone too. But this semester has been crazy. And there is always this summer.

I'm glad the organic debacle was worked out. Apparently at any given time there are thirty people in O.chem, and in fall term we will have seventy five. Its crazy stuff, yo
