One of the best movie going experiences of my life was 1993's "Groundhog Day."
Because I was in college, the only TV we really watched was "The Simpsons" which came on Thursday nights back then... the rest of the week was workin', studyin' (ya right :-) and messin' round.
However, that coldass February weekend, I hit the man-o-war theatre off richmond road, and didn't really know what to see, we just knew we needed a break.
There was a Bill Murray movie I knew nothing about, but loved me some Ghostbusters/Stripes/Whataboutbob/Scrooge... what could go wrong?
So, it gets to the part where he repeats the first day, and I actually thought something had gone wrong with production or the reel or something, having no idea was the juxtaposition of the film was or anything... it was perfect. Nowadays, with a billion trailors everywhere, it'd be hard to go into a movie like that, knowing nothing about it, and get that kinda... well, as lame as it sounds "delightful surprise."
I could pretty much quote that whole movie, and often interject lines into my day-to-day dealings with the absurd: "Well, my father was a piano MOVER" and "I'm the fastest jack in all of Jefferson County" and of course "NED? Ned RYERSON?!?!" Lol... good times
Another great aspect of the flick was it introduced me to the fabulous "You Don't Know Me" by Ray Charles.
I don't know what made me think of ANY of this... I've spent the day hunkered down pouring through security docs and schematics, and I have a crapload of material to review tonight for class... but I invite you to spend three minutes and fourteen seconds enjoying a little slice of heaven:

This is an odd video, but a great version of the song... some of the pictures are actually quite fantastic, tho
You give your hand to me
And then you say, "Hello."
And I can hardly speak,
My heart is beating so.
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well.
Well, you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)
No you don't know the one
Who dreams of you at night;
And longs to kiss your lips
And longs to hold you tight
Oh I'm just a friend.
That's all I've ever been.
Cause you don't know me.
(no you don't know me)
For I never knew the art of making love,
Though my heart aches with love for you.
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by.
A chance that you might love me too.
(love me too)
You give your hand to me,
And then you say, "Goodbye."
I watched you walk away,
Beside the lucky guy
Oh, you'll never ever know
The one who loved you so.
Well, you don't know me
(For I never knew the art of making love, )
(Though my heart aches with love for you. )
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by.
A chance that you might love me too.
(love me too)
Oh, you give your hand to me,
And then you say, "Goodbye."
I watched you walk away,
Beside the lucky guy
Oh, you'll never ever know
The one who loved you so.
Well, you don't know me
(you don't love me, you don't know me)
