[Mayfield seems determined to reignite her unsavoury memories of the Major's siege on London. The nuclear holocaust did a fair job of it, but Integra has long since ( Read more... )

Looks like you went through some crazy shit.

Good, you're safe. We've come under attack by a band...no, a near brigade of well-armed cannibals.

[Resting the steel bar against the stairs within easy reach, Integra sets a recently-liberated shotgun on the closed lid of the washing machine. Her pockets are emptied next, ammunition clinking as she places them beside the shotgun, soon followed by two automatic M1911's that Integra pulls from her belt.

Not!Mum has been busy. She discards her oxford and pulls on a clean one over her undershirt, practicality outweighing any modesty.]

Do you know how to use a firearm?

And if the zombies weren't bad enough.

[Mart finishes the ration, can clinking to the ground.]

Wow. Damn! You're armed to the teeth.

And uh, no. Not really.

Usually I'd just go out there and smash dudes with a lamp post or something but my strength is gone now...

[She gives the shotgun a once-over, sighting down the length of the single barrel.]

Strength? So, they've taken that out of the equation, too...Well, Mart, you're old enough to learn how.

[Here bro, have this shotgun while she demonstrates.] You'll find this easier to use than the handguns.

[As far as she'll be able to tell, no one's in this area... although the cannibals seem intent on busting into one particular building, and they're having a peculiar amount of difficulty just getting the door open. Odd.]

[Odd indeed. They seem to hunt like pack animals, and like dogs sniffing at a cabinet door, they know where their source of food is hiding. One of them carries a Browning Automatic-5 shotgun, what light there is glinting off its engraved receiver. Something to avoid, then.

Three, two- and whomever it is on the other side of the door might hear the sound of combat, gunshots firing and something not unlike the noise a watermelon makes when it lands on something hard.]

[After the noise of the fighting dies down, there's an extended pause before the door creaks slowly open... for the first few inches. Then it just falls off its hinges. The girl behind it leaps aside, as the door falls back on top of the chair that had been barricading it, fracturing both.

The girl stumbles out, looking around at her surroundings.]

Was that all of them?

For the moment. [Integra is bent over the corpses, rooting through pockets and belt pouches for ammunition. It...wouldn't be a good idea to look at their heads for too long. She spends a moment expertly dismantling their guns, pausing on the Browning before it, too, is taken apart.]

Were you the only one down there?

[During a lull in the action, Integra sits back on her haunches and lights up another cigarette. Someone is following her.]

Are you still there?

[The battered lighter sputters, but catches the paper alight and she takes a breath. It's possible she'll die from radiation poisoning as it is, there's no point in denying a fix for some half-cocked idea that it might save her.]

I hadn't taken you as the soldiering type, Mr Giles. [The end of her cigarette glows as she inhales, the hint of a smile on her lips. Smoke wreathes her head when she speaks, a halo of drifting grey and white.]

I'm pleased I was wrong.
