It came to my attention today that I haven't posted in a month. No, don't blame Twitter, it's pretty much for random crap I wouldn't post here anyway.
So I stole a book meme from
writing_light.
01. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Occasionally, but it's not a habit. I don't like getting crumbs stuck in between pages, so it's usually something bite-sized or non-crummy, like Cheez-Its, mini pretzels, gummy bears, M&Ms, etc.
02. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Not with anything I didn't have to write a paper or exam over. It worked better for crap I had to remember than using a notebook ("he's being a dick" in the margins instead of "he didn't know they were married when they meet on p. 57"). These days I don't have any need for marking my books up.
03. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmarks for leisure books, but with books I read for other purposes (i.e. class) it's dog-earing. I got tired of losing bookmarks hauling them everywhere.
04. Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
I read more fiction than non-fiction, but I'm hooked on John Krakauer's non-fiction. I can't wait for the next one coming out.
05. Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy. I'm incapable of paying attention to anything aural if I'm doing something else. If I had an audiobook going and was trying to do other things while listening, I'd totally miss shit. I can't even listen to podcasts without missing huge portions of them.
06. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
I LIKE to get to the end of chapters, but I don't mind if I have to set it aside before I can get to that point.
07. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
Only if not knowing what it means is screwing with me being able to get what's going on. To be honest, I rarely come across words I don't know. And with most of the others I can figure out the meaning by how the word is being used or what's going on (context clues, bitches!).
08. What are you currently reading?
I just finished Lolita by Vladmir Nobokov so I'm enjoying the non-serious route. Between the latest Supernatural novel (Bone Key) and Eugene Mirman's The Will to Whatevs, I'm happily and mindlessly amused.
09. What is the last book you bought?
If we're just talking books, then it's actually a photo book by The Beatles' personal photographer (for 3 years), Robert Freeman. But if we're talking books to read, then E.M. Forster's Maurice.
10. Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
I usually focus on one book at a time but occasionally I'll have something fun on the side to flip through when I want a break from the main one. When I was wanting to throw Lolita against a wall I went and giggled about mischievous women in Eternally Bad: Goddesses With Attitude.
11. Do you like re-reading books?
Sometimes it's really fun to go back and see what I missed in the first go-through. Usually, however, I feel guilty going back through something I've already read when I have a stack of new material to get through (and there's pretty much always just that, a stack).
So yeah. I'm alive and I still read. =P I still log into LJ daily to catch up on everyone else, but just haven't had anything to say. I'm getting ready to dash down to Houston and Austin and then back home in a span of three days next week, and that's about it. Still doing photography. Got my passport. Got an iPhone. My great aunt Marcia died (and that's pretty recent, the funeral is still a few days off). Oh, and Lucy (cat) was missing for about a week and came home dirty and hungry, but otherwise fine (after, I might add, I canvassed the neighborhood almost daily in 100+ temperatures).
So. Yeah. *thumbs up*
